Bourton-on-the-Water, stop 1 on day 4 of my Cotswolds trip, charmed me with scenic views, a posing duck, and Christmas shopping with my mom!

From Savannah to the Cotsowlds, Part 5: Bourton-on-the-Water

Travel

Each day of my Cotswolds adventure, I found myself completely amazed by the charm of every stop on our itinerary. Just when I thought I had seen the most picturesque village, the next one would be just as delightful in its own unique way. On day four, our visit to Bourton-on-the-Water, often called the “Venice of the Cotswolds,” was no exception. With its picturesque stone bridges arching over the River Windrush and its fairytale-like cottages, it’s easy to see why this village is such a favorite among visitors.

The weather that morning was absolutely perfect—cool but not too cold, with the kind of crisp air that makes you want to wander aimlessly and take in every little detail. And that’s exactly what I did. I found a lovely spot along the water and sat for a bit, just watching the birds and ducks go about their day. One particularly photogenic duck seemed to understand the assignment, striking a pose as if he knew he was about to be the star of my camera roll.

One of the things I loved most about this trip was meeting so many friendly people. In Bourton-on-the-Water, I had the pleasure of chatting with a sweet couple from Wales who were also visiting for a little getaway. We talked about travel, photography, and how much we were all enjoying the Cotswolds. It was one of those simple but lovely interactions that makes a trip even more special.

Of course, a little shopping was in order, and we popped into a few of the village’s charming shops. One of my favorites was an adorable Christmas store, because no matter what time of year it is, I can always justify adding to my ornament collection. My mom and I both picked out ornaments to bring home as souvenirs—such a fun way to remember this beautiful place when we decorate our trees next year.

After soaking in the peaceful beauty of Bourton-on-the-Water, it was time to move on to our next destination—Burford. With its breathtaking views and another incredible medieval church to explore, it was yet another highlight of the trip. But more on that in my next post!

Stay tuned! 😊
