Discover how to make the most of a summer portrait session in Savannah, GA—without melting in the heat.
Let’s have a little heart-to-heart about something I hear all the time:
“Isn’t it way too hot for outdoor portraits during summer in Savannah, GA?”
And listen—I get it. The humidity is real. The sun and bugs are aggressive. And yes, if we scheduled your session for high noon, we’d all be cranky, shiny, and questioning our life choices. But here’s the good news: with the right timing (and the right photographer), a summer photo session in Savannah can be absolute magic.
Savannah does not play around when it comes to summer blooms. I recently did a few sessions in one of our local parks, and the hydrangeas were on another level—fluffy, colorful, and stealing the show in the best way.
Even though the hydrangeas are starting to fade in several places, the parks and green spaces around town are still bursting with beauty. Whether it’s blooming flowers, lush trees, or that iconic Spanish moss swaying in the breeze, summer in Savannah, GA delivers when it comes to gorgeous backdrops.
So don’t worry if you missed a certain flower—the charm of Savannah doesn’t depend on just one bloom. The natural beauty here shows up season after season, and summer is no exception.
Here’s the deal: You will not catch me booking your outdoor session at 2:00 PM in July.
Unless you’re going for a “sweaty chic” look…and I have a feeling you’re not.
To beat the heat, avoid the harsh midday sun, and keep everyone from declaring mutiny, we schedule all outdoor summer sessions either early in the morning or later in the evening. That means:
Plus, let’s be honest: your kids are probably already off their normal sleep schedule thanks to summer break. So why not lean in and use those later bedtimes to your advantage with a golden-hour session?
Savannah summer evenings love a good thunderstorm. So yes, we may have to do a little weather watching and be flexible with your session date. But here’s the thing: some of the most beautiful light of the entire year happens during summer evenings. That post-rain glow? It’s pure magic.
And if you’re vacationing in Savannah or you’re a local looking to update your family photos, now is the perfect time, especially before fall calendars start filling up with school, sports, and the holiday rush.
If just reading the word “humidity” makes you want to hide in the AC, we can absolutely do your session in the studio instead.
No bugs. No sweat. No worrying if your hair is going to frizz the second you walk outside. It’s a controlled environment, and is perfect for families who prefer a more classic, clean look.
Because we’re only shooting in those early morning or late evening windows and I’m spending lots of quality time soaking in summer with my own kiddos, my availability is extra limited right now.
If you’re thinking about booking a session this summer, don’t wait. Reach out and get a date on the calendar ASAP so we can lock in your spot!
