Planning for your baby’s first photo session can feel like a big task, but with a little preparation, your experience will be smooth, enjoyable, and stress-free. At Tiffany Bradley Photography, I’m here to make your Savannah newborn photography experience as easy as possible, helping you capture these precious first days with timeless images you’ll cherish. Here’s a guide to getting your baby and family ready for a beautiful, relaxed session.
A little preparation on the day of the session will go a long way! Giving your baby a bath that morning helps them expend a bit of energy, which can make them extra sleepy for the session. Dress your baby in a loose-fitting sleeper to avoid any marks on their skin and make undressing for photos simple and quick.
If possible, try to keep your baby awake just before and on the drive over. A sleepy baby makes for a smoother session, and we’ll aim to capture those sweet, peaceful poses.
Leaving the house with a newborn can sometimes feel like preparing for a small expedition, but a few things will help your session go smoother: Extra bottles—even if you’re breastfeeding—sometimes a little top-up helps keep baby content and cozy. And, trust me on this one, bring a pacifier. Even if it’s not in your daily routine, it can be a secret weapon for those in-between moments.
For your newborn session in Savannah, your baby will be wrapped in a white wrap to create classic, natural looks that let your baby shine. So there’s no need to bring clothes for your baby, unless you have a special heirloom outfit you’d like included in a few shots. Feel free to bring 1-2 sentimental or heirloom items, if you have them. They help to add a personal touch to your portraits.
When planning outfits for yourself, your partner, and any siblings, neutral colors are ideal. We’ll be photographing you as a family on a white backdrop, so neutral colors and pastels photograph beautifully and keep the focus on your family. Avoid busy patterns, which can distract from the simplicity of these timeless images. I suggest picking mom’s outfit first—flowy dresses work wonderfully—then coordinate everyone else around that. Rather than matching in identical colors, choose a coordinated palette for a soft, harmonious look.
Newborn sessions are designed to flow around your baby’s needs, so flexibility is key. Your little one is the boss, and I follow their cues to create a natural, relaxed pace. Sometimes they may need to eat, cuddle, or take a break, and I’m here for all of it!
If you’re bringing older siblings, there’s a TV in the studio to help keep them entertained. You’re also welcome to bring any favorite toys, books, or activities that help keep them comfortable. I want your session to feel like an extension of home—a comfortable, welcoming space where everyone feels at ease.
