Newborn

If you’re searching for newborn photography in Savannah, GA, you’re likely feeling a mix of excitement, uncertainty, and a quiet pressure to make the right decision. You want beautiful images of your baby’s earliest days, but you may also be wondering when to book, whether it’s already too late, and how to choose a photographer you can truly trust with your brand new baby. This guide was written to answer those questions, simplify the process, and help you move forward with confidence whether your baby is still on the way or already in your arms.

“I Didn’t Think I Wanted Newborn Pictures Until…”

In 2025, I photographed several newborns who were close to one month old. Almost every one of those sessions started with a similar conversation. “I didn’t think I wanted newborn pictures until I saw how fast they were changing.”

And honestly…I get it.

Newborn photography can feel optional at first. You have a phone. Before you even leave the hospital, your camera roll is already filling up with tiny details and sleepy expressions. Those early days at Memorial or Candler feel like a blur, and it often isn’t until you’re home that you realize how quickly everything is changing. It is easy to assume that professional newborn photos are something you can skip or decide on later. Then a week goes by. Then another. Suddenly your baby’s face looks different. Their hands are not quite as tiny. That sleepy newborn curl starts to fade. And you realize just how quickly this season is moving. That realization often comes with a bit of panic. Sometimes a lot of panic.

If that is where you are right now, take a breath. You are not alone.

Is It Too Late for Newborn Photos?

Short answer…usually no.

While there is absolutely a sweet spot for newborn photography, two weeks old is my personal favorite, it is still very possible to create beautiful newborn images with babies who are three or even four weeks old. In fact, many of the sessions I photographed in 2025 were for babies right around that one month mark.

What matters most is not the exact age of your baby. What matters is availability.

Most newborn photographers in Savannah only take on a limited number of newborn sessions each month. This allows flexibility for unpredictable due dates and ensures each family receives the time and attention they deserve. Because of that, many photographers book several months in advance.

For example, going into 2026, I already have newborns on the calendar for January, February, and April, so if you are still pregnant and thinking it feels too early to book, I can assure you it is not.

If your baby is already here and you are worried you missed your chance, you should still reach out. Occasionally there is space, and I would always rather you ask than assume the answer is no. It is genuinely hard when a mama reaches out wanting to work together and I do not have availability.

The best advice I can give, even if you do not end up booking with me, is to reach out to a newborn photographer before your baby is born so you can secure a guaranteed spot on their calendar.

Why Newborn Photography is Harder Than it Looks

Another thing I hear often sounds something like this: “I thought I could just take newborn pictures myself…and then I tried.”

Newborns are tiny, unpredictable humans who do not care about lighting, angles, or how tired you are. They wiggle. They need breaks. They need to be handled carefully and confidently.

Newborn photography is not about forcing poses. It is about knowing how to safely and comfortably work with a baby, reading their cues, and adjusting the session as needed. Experience plays a big role here.

Phones are wonderful. They capture everyday moments beautifully. Professional newborn photography serves a different purpose. It creates timeless images that document this stage intentionally, with care, with YOU in the pictures, and with a level of consistency that is difficult to achieve on your own

How to Choose the Right Newborn Photographer in Savannah, GA

Whether your baby is still on the way or already here, these are the things I encourage parents to look at when researching newborn photography in Savannah, GA.

Experience with Newborns

How long has the photographer been photographing newborns specifically. Newborn photography requires patience, safety awareness, and experience that goes beyond general photography skills.

Studio or In Home Sessions

Some photographers work exclusively in a studio. Others photograph in your home. Some offer both. There is no right or wrong choice here. Think about what feels most comfortable and convenient for you.

Portfolio Consistency

Spend time on their website. Is their work consistent? Do you know what your images will look like if you hire them? Consistency builds trust and helps you feel confident in what you are investing in.

Understanding the Experience and Pricing

Not all photographers operate the same way. Some are digital only. Some offer set packages. Some have a session fee followed by artwork and image purchases. Take time to understand how each photographer works so there are no surprises later.

Decide What Matters Most to You

Price is important. But it is not the only factor. Ask yourself what kind of experience you want. Do you want to handle everything yourself – from outfits to printing to album design? Or do you want to be guided and taken care of throughout the process?

Make a list of what matters most to you and use that list when comparing photographers. This is the person who will be handling and photographing your brand new baby. Trust is everything.

Do the Consult Call

I know phone calls are not everyone’s favorite thing. But this step is incredibly important. A consult call gives you clarity when you are tired, pregnant, emotional, or adjusting to life with a newborn. It allows you to ask questions, understand the photographer’s process, and get a feel for their personality.

You can usually tell pretty quickly if you feel comfortable with someone. That comfort matters more than you might realize.
