Let me paint you a picture: It’s last minute. Like, really last minute. We’re heading to Disney with my toddler, Louie, who desperately needs his first haircut. Chaos, right? But wait, it gets better—my oldest son, Miller, the wise and all-knowing 13-year-old, has an idea–well, more like a demand: “Mom, we have to do his haircut at Harmony Barbershop, just like you did with me!” 🎉 Nostalgia bomb, anyone? As a Savannah Family Photographer, moments like this hold so much sentimental value, and suddenly, this trip has turned into a full-blown memory lane situation.

The Magic of Harmony Barbershop

So off we went, speeding through a whirlwind trip to the Magic Kingdom. And by some miracle of Disney magic (or maybe just pixie dust✨), we scored a last-minute appointment at Harmony Barbershop. Do you believe in fate? Because here’s the kicker: Diane, the same stylist who cut my oldest son’s hair all those years ago, was still there! Same spot, same warm smile, same mastery of keeping toddlers calm while wielding scissors. It felt like a full-circle Disney moment.

My Experience as a Savannah Family Photographer

As a Savannah family photographer, I can say with certainty that moments like these are worth capturing forever. Louie? Let’s just say he wasn’t exactly thrilled about the whole “first haircut” thing at first. The nervous squirming and wide-eyed terror were real  😳. But Diane, being the pro that she is, whipped out light-up toys and stickers like she had a toddler survival kit at the ready. Within minutes, my little guy was happily distracted, and the haircut was over before he even knew it.

It’s relatively inexpensive (a rarity in the land of Mickey ears), and they go all out to make it special. You get the haircut, a certificate to prove your little one’s milestone, and a lock of that precious baby hair to keep forever (cue the tears😭). Oh, and the cherry on top? A Mickey Mouse hat that says “My 1st Haircut” stitched on the back. Talk about souvenirs with sentimental value! 

But let me warn you—this is no walk-up-and-sit-down kind of deal. Appointments go faster than you can say, “Is there a Lightning Lane for this?” If you’re planning a trip, book early! I’m not going to lie, we got super lucky with our last-minute spot. Maybe it was the Disney gods smiling down on us.

I’ve got to take a moment to talk about the outfit situation too. Before we left, I had some serious mom anxiety about finding the perfect “first haircut” outfit—you know, because I’d be snapping 2,378 photos. (Savannah family photographer mode activated.) Thankfully, the ladies at Littles on Liberty totally saved the day. I walked into Savannah’s Beaufort Bonnet signature store, explained the situation, and they were so sweet, so patient, and so helpful.  🙌 We left with the perfect outfit, and yes, my camera was very happy.
